What do you think about using a blog/ website for learning at school?

I think that it is good to use a blog for learning at school because you don’t have to use this only for school things. You can use your blog to write things about a book you read or a movie you saw. Blogs are also great because you can write your own opinion and you can see friends or other peoples opinion about something. So I think that using a blog to learn in school is a good idea.

What are the best/worst things about using blogs?

Some of the best things about edublogs is that you have the freedom to look at other peoples blogs and see their opinions. There are some bad things like if you make it too personal and add phone numbers and home addresses it might be dangerous.

Do you like the idea of using your blog/website for other classes, not just English? What subjects and why?

We don’t use our blogs for other subjects.

What are your favourite websites that you use?

1. youtube

2.facebook

3.face in the hole

4.skype

What would you like to be able to do use your blog/ website for? What ideas have you got?

I think that we don’t need to change it so much because it is already very good.

Do you think it is important to learn how to use things like blogs? Why? Why not?

Yes because it could help us in the future if we get a job where we have to use blogs.

A few days ago I watched “The Dark Night” for the second time. The story is very interesting and energetic. The Joker wants to capture and see who is Batman but the Joker made a deal to him self that each Batman doesn’t turn him self in, someone will die. It has lots of action scenes some of these are violent. I think the Dark Night is a very good movie so if you haven’t seen it I recommend this movie but if you don’t like violent movies I don’t recommend this movie.

The characters are also interesting too, the “Joker” was played by Heath Ledger. Heath was a very good Joker and I heard he locked him self in a hotel room for ten days just to get the Joker laugh right. Batman is different in the movie because he talks as if he was ghost and in the end he gets hunted and becomes the dark night.

In english class we all had to write our own stories and put them in a contest. The theme was a “journey”. When I heard this I thought a journey like a voyage across the ocean, but the word “journey” can mean other things too. For example life and death or a story of a mans life. I think I did well because I used an event that happened in the past and I made it a journey about an old mans childhood when he has a flashback. Here is my story.

Breakfast in Hiroshima

By Robin Kennedy

Hachiro Tanaka went for a walk in the Hiroshima Peace Park in the morning with his grandson named Kenji. When they were looking at the dome his grandson Kenji said Grandpa Hachiro its time for breakfast. The moment he heard those words he had a flash back to when he was only about 11 years old. “Hachiro, time for breakfast.” “Coming mom.”

Hachiro came down to the living room and sat at the table. Then he looked at his calendar today was August 6th, 1945.

“Oh man, only hot water again.”

“Well you know we can’t afford any food right now.”

Said Hachiro’s mom. Hachiro quickly finished his breakfast of hot water and started walking to school. Today was different around 8 o’ clock the bomb alarms went off. Hachiro and his class quickly hid under their desks. Hachiro saw a plane flying over Hiroshima, and then a black missile like object dropped from the plane. When it hit the ground a huge blinding flash of light spread though the city of Hiroshima and the whole school was destroyed just in one flash of light. At that moment Hachiro knew that this was not a normal bomb, but he had never seen anything or heard of anything like this. The whole school was burned and destroyed, the whole city was destroyed, and all of his classmates were dead, burned alive! When Hachiro tried to stand up his whole body ached as if a thousand hammers were banging on him. The air was hot as if he was burning up. He fell to the ground and tried again. Even though his body ached but he managed to stand up.

Hachiro walked out of the school and looked at the city all he saw was a destroyed city and corpses of people who were killed in this horrible life-taking event. Hachiro’s instinct was to go check if his family had made it. He walked as fast as he could towards his house. When he got to the remains of his house there was nothing. He thought his parents and his families were all dead but then he heard his mother scream“help”.

His mom was trapped under a burning log almost half of her body was burned away! When Hachiro tried to lift the log she screamed and said “just leave me here, you must go and survive. You have a whole life to live, but mine is over.”

Hachiro burst into tears he didn’t want to leave his mother. He tried lifting the log again but then another part of the house fell on top of his mother. She had died before Hachiro could even say goodbye.

Hachiro was so sad. He tried to run as fast as his feet could carry him but soon he collapsed, everything went black. When he woke up he was put in a pile of dead people about to be burned. Hachure screamed and shot forward and fell to the ground. A soldier picked him up and said, “Your alive, I can’t believe it!”

The soldier rubbed his head but then when he took his hand off Hachiro’s head some of his hair had fallen out! Hachiro had gotten radiation sickness! He put on a hat and fell asleep. When he woke up all his hair fallen out and it was in the hat. Hachiro had become bald. He put his hat back on and started walking. He was not planning to go so far but he went for a walk in the holding bay for the victims of the atom bomb. When he looked around he felt very lucky that he only hurt his head because he saw people with their whole body wrapped up with bandages, people who had lost body parts, people very badly burned. Hachiro got scared and walked away. After a while when his head got better he was aloud to leave the holding bay. He went for a walk around the city he noticed that the only building standing was the dome.

That was when he flashed back. His grandson was tugging on his shirt and saying “Grandpa Hachiro it’s time for breakfast.”

Hachiro and his grandson Kenji walked back to his house and had a very good breakfast.

The End

I hope you liked it.

Just recently I read some Greek Myths for my english project. I read a few myths but my favorite myth was “The Golden Apples” because its a very interesting story and its energetic. Its energetic because the myth is about a big race between Hippomenes who is Neptunes grandson and Atalanta who is a girl that was raised by bears. I thought it was a good myth. I also love reading greek mythology because the stories are always interesting, a lot of them have this in common and they also had it in the “Golden Apples” but in the end the characters turn into animals or insects. For example in “The Weaving Contest” Arachne gets turned into the first spider.

My favorite parts were the big race between Hippomenes and Atalanta and when they are both slowly turned into animals. Those are my favorite parts because the way the author who retold these myths discribed these parts for example she wrote “When the trumpets sounded, the two shot forward and ran so fast that their feet barley touched the sand. They looked as if they could run over the surface of the sea without getting their feet wet–or skim over fields of corn without even bending the stalks.” or “One night as Atalanta and Hippomenes lay side by side under the moonlight, changes began to happen to their bodies. They grew rough amber coats, and stiff, long claws. And when dawn came, they woke and growled at the early light. Then the thick tails of the two mighty lions swept the ground as they began hunting for their breakfast.”

To create a comic book there are three major things that you need to know. One thing is how to draw your pictures for the book. Here is a link to give you advice on drawing your pictures. Your pictures should be simple and easy to recognize. The second thing is knowing how to use captions and speech bubbles. Click here for the definition of a speech bubble. Speech bubbles are mostly used for adding dialogue. Captions are used for detailing background information and establishing context. You can also captions too describe sounds for example words like “whoosh”, “kaboom”. The thing you need to know is how to decide what parts of your story to focus on. First you need to outline the plot, develop characters and sometimes add humor. You need to make a rough draft of your pictures. Here is a good example of one part of a comic strip that uses these three elements.

I think that our group did well but it was a hard task because we had to learn how to work together in a big group with out a teacher. We had to use lots of teamwork for example we had one person doing each thing like one person did the cutting another did the stapling onto the board. The start of the project was very good because we just sat in a circle and talked about what we think about Roald Dahl then we decided to interview some teachers Anton and I interviewed Mrs. Kar different people interviewed other teacher like Mr. Tracey, Mrs. Nadeau, Mrs. Gerrish and Mr. Neary. Towards the end we were still doing well but at some points people were goofing off but I still think we did a good job.

1. The Umpa Lumpas because they are interesting and funny characters and I’ve always like Charlie and the chocolate factory and they are my favorite characters in the book and movie. I also would like to learn why Roald Dahl made The Umpa Lumpas who they are.

2.Willy Wonka because he’s wierd but creative, he can be kind to some and cruel to others. I like chocolate and his creative side comes out when he thinks of all the flavors and ingredients for his chocolate. Willy Wonka also one part I like about him is that he searches for honesty.

My favorite book is Chasing Vermeer. This book is about two kids who are trying to solve a crime. Somebody stole a famous painting by Vermeer. The whole book is like a puzzle about trying to find out who stole the painting. The name of the author is Blue Balliett. I like it because the genre is mystery.

I also like Hatchet. I have read this book twice, once in 4th grade in America and this year in 6th grade class. This book is about a kid named Brian. In the story his plane crashes, his pilot dies in the crash, and Brian becomes stranded in the Canadian wilderness. All he has the hatchet his mom gave him, a wind breaker, and himself. The story is about his survival.
